The Microsoft Office System was designed to allow easy integration with the objective of empowering organizations to be more productive while reducing costs. Office products integrate with SharePoint (MOSS) and can be integrated with your existing LOB applications.  Many of the functions in today’s organizations are carried out in one of the Office products and nearly every office worker uses Office products for some of their functions.  Since they are already familiar with the Office interface it is a natural extension to provide functionality directly from an application they already use.
